What is Zakat?

Zakat is the third pillar of Islam. Muslims whose wealth stays above the Nisab threshold for a lunar year give 2.5% of that wealth to those entitled to receive it.

What is the Nisab?

The Nisab is the minimum wealth you must hold before Zakat is due: the value of 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver. Many scholars recommend the silver value, because it is lower, so more people qualify to give and more reaches those in need.

How much Zakat do I pay?

Zakat is 2.5% of your net Zakatable wealth. On £5,000 of net wealth that is £125.

Do I pay Zakat on gold jewellery?

Gold and silver are Zakatable by weight, including jewellery, coins and bars. Enter the weight in grams and the calculator values it at today’s price.

When is Zakat due?

Zakat falls due once a full lunar year has passed while your wealth stayed at or above the Nisab. Many people choose to pay during Ramadan for the extra reward.
