Cookie Policy
This page lists every cookie and similar technology we use, what each one does and how long it lasts. Nothing except the strictly necessary items runs until you tell us it can.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small file a website stores on your device. We also use local storage, which works the same way and is covered by the same rules. Some are essential to make the site work. Others help us understand how the site is used, or measure our appeals. Under UK law we may only set the non-essential ones after you have agreed.
2. Your choice, and how to change it
When you first arrive, nothing but the strictly necessary items runs. You can accept all, reject all, or choose category by category. Rejecting is exactly as easy as accepting, and refusing costs you nothing on this site.
You can change your mind whenever you like:
We record your choice, and the date you made it, so we can prove we honoured it. Clearing your browser storage resets the choice and you will be asked again.
3. Strictly necessary
These make the site work. They cannot be switched off and they need no consent, because the site cannot deliver what you asked for without them. None of them track you.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
mhuk.consent.v1 | Local storage, first party | Remembers your cookie choice and when you made it, so we do not ask again and can evidence your consent. | Until you clear it |
mhuk.basket.v1 | Local storage, first party | Holds the appeals in your donation basket so they survive a page change. | Until you empty the basket or clear it |
4. Analytics
Only set if you agree. These tell us which appeals people read and where the site is confusing, so we can improve it. They are loaded through Google Tag Manager.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes one visitor from another. | 2 years |
_ga_<container> | Google Analytics | Keeps session state. | 2 years |
Status today. No analytics container is configured, so nothing in this section currently loads and no request is made to Google. This table must be re-checked against the live container before launch, because the exact cookies depend on which tags are added to it.
5. Marketing
Only set if you agree. These measure our social appeals and stop us showing you the same appeal repeatedly. Our benchmark of comparable UK charities shows this is normally Meta and TikTok pixels; we will list exactly what we use here before any of it goes live.
Status today. No marketing tags are configured and none load. This section will be completed with the specific pixels, their providers and their durations before the first campaign runs.
6. Controlling cookies in your browser
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Doing so may stop parts of this site working, including the donation basket. Every major browser publishes instructions: look for privacy or site data in its settings.
For more about how we use personal data, and your rights over it, see our privacy policy.
