Aid that arrives, and stays honest about it

We are a UK Muslim charity. We take donations from people here and turn them into food, clean water, medical care and shelter for families who have lost almost everything, and into Sadaqah Jariyah projects that keep giving long after the emergency has left the news.

What we do

Our work falls into three parts, and they are not equally glamorous.

• Emergency relief. Food, hot meals, clean water, medicine and shelter where a crisis has broken the ordinary means of living. This is the work that has to happen this week.
• Sadaqah Jariyah. Water wells, hand pumps and lasting infrastructure. Slower, less dramatic, and the thing that changes what the next drought or the next winter does to a community.
• Seasonal giving. Qurbani each Eid al-Adha, and Zakat distributed to those eligible to receive it. For many households the Qurbani share is the only meat they eat all year.

Where we work

We currently deliver in Palestine and Gaza, Yemen, Somalia, the Rohingya camps in Bangladesh, and across East Africa and South Asia for water projects. We work where we already have people, rather than following attention.

How we work

Our teams and partners are from the communities they serve. That is not a slogan about authenticity, it is the practical reason we can still deliver in places where an operation run from outside would have to withdraw. It also means aid is bought locally wherever a market is functioning, so your donation supports the local economy as well as the family receiving it.

It has a cost, and we would rather name it: local delivery is harder to photograph, harder to audit from a distance, and slower to report on. We accept that trade because it is the difference between reaching people and announcing that we intended to.

Accountability

We are registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, number 1148089. Our entry on the public register is open to anyone, and we would rather you checked it than took our word. We follow the Code of Fundraising Practice, and we do not use pressure tactics, invented deadlines or manufactured scarcity to raise money.

Zakat is held separately from general funds. Restricted gifts are used for the appeal you chose, and where an appeal closes or is met we say so and explain where the surplus goes. The details are in our terms and conditions.
